Artist's Statement

This was a picture taken of me as a three-year-old with my grandmother. During the pandemic, my concern for her has drastically increased both because of her vulnerability to the virus and also to violent attacks. Looking back at everything she has done for me, I want to protect her from anti-Asian racism but sometimes I feel very helpless. Seeing other people's grandparents being beaten on the street feels eerily close when I think of my grandmother who goes on daily walks and could be the next target for a hate crime.
