Artist's Statement

Anti-Asian hate crimes have increased nearly 150% from 2019 and 2020... and they are still on the rise. Watching and reading about these horrid hate crimes and violence directed towards the AAPI community breaks my heart. And sadly, this isn't something new. The recent spike is simply the release of deep-rooted racism existent within our country's history and society.

I fear for my Asian-American friends, their families, and the countless others who work hard to serve, lead, innovate, and protect our country. To speak out against these hate crimes, I decided to create this mixed media piece, titled "Hate is Never Beautiful." I hope that we can all work to support each other, speak out against racism, and alleviate the pain inflicted on an entire race of people... whether it be through art, literature, or other mediums. It's time for us to see the humanity in others and to unite and strive for equality.
